Bosch HBN7050GB/01 fan removal

I need to remove the fan on a HBN7050GB/01 to replace the element as the top retaining screw for the element is directly behind the fan. However, I have undone the nut and removed the washer but fan will not budge from the spline – any ideas/tips???

I’m guessing we’re talking about the half-moon element ?

There are a couple of ways but the easiest – albeit smelliest – is to spray WD40 onto the shaft where the fan blade sits . Leave for 15mins or so to llow the WD40 to do it work and then grip the shaft with some plumbers pliers and turn the fan blade…..it may take one or more squirts of WD but it should eventually prise off.

Word of warning !!! Try not to wiggle the shaft too much as they can bend and you will end up with a noisy fan .

Power off if attempting repair , make sure the oven is well ventilated and if you do get the repair done , burn off the oven for at least 30mins after because as the WD 40 burns off , it will stink !

Yes, the half-moon element!

Will give that a go – I was going to try a more penetrating type oil such as Plus Gas – but was not sure whether fan just slotted onto spline in the normal way or whether it was secured in some other matter.

No , the only thing that holds it on the shaft is the nut and washer. There is a build up of grease/oxidisation on the shaft/fan blade that causes it to ‘stick’ – Once you have removed the fan blade , make sure you clean both the shaft and theinside of the fan blade hole to help with its refitting…….and don’t be tempted to leave that single hidden screw out if you’re thinking of making it easier next time ( !!! ) The element bends during use and will catch the blade making a lovely drilling noise 🙂

Sorted!

Squirted a bit of Plusgas onto the spline, waited 5 minutes and the fan slid off!
