ParticipantMorning guys im having a load of recalls on these pieces of shxt, (5 in the last month) some even failing on install, is there any advice on how to explain to customers that there is DEFINITELY a major problem with them, have bosch rectified the problem or shall i just refuse to fit them from now on
Your thoughts pleaseMarch 6, 2018 at 10:35 am #454446electrofix

assume you let them settle after install before you turned them on
since they are under warranty did bosch say anything when they were called out ?

Hiya dave, once i fitted the pump it worked 5 times, when you say about leaving it to settle do you mean if as though its been in the van and cold or something,?
Ive got absolutely no faith in thes machinesMarch 7, 2018 at 6:38 pm #454448electrofix

its effectively a fridge so if you tilt it or transport it needs time for the oil to settle before you turn it on
I was thinking of the new ones failing immediately
not seem many of these machines yet but the ones I have seem to work ok. with your luck I would forget winning the lottery lol

ah see what you mean now lol
seen a few of these fail as the heater unit is quite flimsy. you can see a picture I posted of the heater unit here

if these units were ultra unreliable I think Bosch Neff engineers would be going hairless with Under guarantee repairs but its also worth noting that whirlpool have a mod kit to change it back on their dishwashers
you say these pump are failing on install, I now assume you mean you are replacing the unit in the customers own unit out of warranty. these heaters will blow very easily if overheated. so can blow through lack of water flow which can be all the normal suspects. Blocked bars, broken diverter, too much foam and blocked filters. It is all in all a very poor design as the normal flow through heater is much more reliable

Rumoured that sales of decent ‘syrups’ ( cockney rhyming slang) are at an all time high amongst their ranks.TBH it won’t really worry them, it’s the Indies who fit them out of warranty who will be suffering. 🙁

assuming they are not earthing due to leaks? the heater part of the pump sits below base level so a little bit of water will get straight in there. Yes I get loads of repeated failures but not usually on install. Usual reasons are the water hardness not being set correctly if its a hard water area or lack of salt (no doubt all freshly topped up just before we arrive) or lack of filter cleaning (no doubt all freshly cleaned just before we arrive).

would be nice to get an idea if its hard water areas where these fail more often

I’m in a very soft water area, North West England and can honestly say I’ve never been back to one i’ve fitted. I have had quite a few heaters go o/s over the last few years on these heat pumps but of all the ones i’ve fit, ive never been back. So you may be right, it may be a hard water issue.

I live in a hard water area (Dorset) and I have only had one customer that I can recall that has repeated heat pump failures. His dishwasher is just four years old. I had to fit a new heatpump within the first year despite his warranty as he couldn’t and wouldn’t look for his paperwork and wouldn’t wait for BSH to do it. I have not altered the hard water settings on any of the heatpump machines I’ve repaired.
But…….
Blocked filters, blocked wash rotor jets, filters not locked down properly and impaired wash pump paddle capacity due to it being full of cr@p that can only get there if the filters are not clean and locked down.
So the bottom line of the fault flow chart is the lazy arse user. The absolute irony is the customer that I mentioned at the top of this post who will not get to grips with cleaning his filter for months and doesn’t lock it down has just been visited today and a new heatpump is on order. Fourth time lucky, eh? :bang:
I shouldn’t care really because I get paid every time…….Steve.

Fitted one to a Siemens last week and in with the pump was a new plastic baffle that clips into the sump by the pump inlet. Looked the same as the old one but wondered if its to help water flow.

Good info but Dorset doesn’t even make the top 20 hard water areas. Lawrence Carey is in #1 position.
