ParticipantHi all, I’ve searched for this fridge type because I’m sure this problem must have happened to someone else, but not found it. The machine I have is a side by side fridge freezer and I have had two of them badged differently. The one I have now is a Bosch KFU5755 side by side with an ice maker.
Suddenly the fridge side has gone up to 16 degrees C, but the freezer side and ice maker is fine. There has been ice suddenly building up on the top shelf of the freezer with some powder and small icicles developing – not very much, but I switched the machine off to check that both the fan motors were working and when I took the inside panels off the back of the freezer I found the condenser completely iced up solid including the drain. The fan was still turning. I defrosted everything (no sharp tools!!) and cleaned and dried everything and turned the machine on again and everything was fine, but 3 days later the temp is up and the ice is reforming.
I am very far from civilisation, so I wonder if I can fix this one myself?! I am quite handy with the tools and have fixed dishwashers and ovens before. I did follow the step by step frost free fridge freezer guide, but it’s hard to see which problem this one might be. I have had the machine 3 years (bought 2nd hand) and it has been fine, but I have always had the thermostat set to the very coldest setting. This could be a clue maybe…

I found the problem. I checked the drain in the freezer and that wasn’t blocked. There’s a heater element that runs through the condenser in the freezer and this is broken, so the condenser ices up after a day or so. I ran some power through it and it didn’t work and I checked it for continuity too and it’s bust.
I spoke to a fridge repair man in the city and he has a spare one lying around he is going to give me. 😛
