    Hi.

My 14 year old Frigidaire is on its last legs, ice build up inside the fridge along the drain channel, ice balls in other places. Been a good servant (was a budget unit when brought) and I think now is the time to get a new one.

I am looking to buy the Bosch KGH39V03 from John Lewis. It comes with a 2 year warranty and I can add three years for £95.

What are people’s opinions on these? Is a Bosch likely to fail before 5 years? If it does will it generally be something I can fix and what would an engineer cost?

I know most say the extended warranties are a rip off and everything I’ve ever had the extension on has gone on long after the extended period has expired.

    Many thanks.

    Hi

Extended warranties have always been and will always be a bone of contention. if you consider the cost of an engineer`s labour charge say £45 plus the VAT and any spares should they be required, you could easily use up the £95 premium you have paid in the one hit.

Also no doubt there will be frozen food protection built into the policy as
well thus saving your household contents premium increasing should you make a claim.

Another way of looking at it is, what price do you want to put on having peace of mind on a product which is plugged in and working 24/7.

    Got a right result!!!!!!!!!

John Lewis were advertising that I could get an extra two years free. This was the Bosch anniversary which ended 31st December 2008.

I ordered it and then spoke to JL who gave me the 5 year extended warranty free.

Typical JL, don’t mess you around.
