I’m having to turn the fridge control considerably colder than usual to get the fridge to the right temp. It did this before about 6 years ago and a 48 hour defrost fixed it, but this time the same treatment has made no difference. It also took many hours for the fridge to drop back to temp after the defrost.
The freezer temp is fine and the fan runs but I don’t think it is sounding as enthusiastic as it used to and hence the air flow into the fridge feels a bit feeble.
I’ve popped the control board out of the top and note that it has two capacitors on it. A 1uF 275V X2 type that is running slightly warm to the touch and a 1000uf 10V electrolytic that physically look fine.
Could either of the capacitors be the root of the fan sounding a bit sluggish or is it more likely to be the fan motor itself?
I have also had the air control flap out of the back of the fridge and it looks fine and appears to be working as it should. It is also still allowing air through when set to what used to be a good setting so I don’t think that is the issue.
I appreciate it’s a pretty old appliance now, 15 years plus, but if a simple part change can get it working that’s far preferable than buy an new one.
