ParticipantI have had the above fridge freezer for 7 months (it being a replacement for the first one of this type I had that froze solid in 3 months!).
My concern is that although it is holding temperature ok, it appears to be running almost constantly to do it.Having plugged it into an energy measuring plug for the last 48 hours I find that it is using about 1.75KW/24hrs – far in excess of the 1KW/24hrs that Bosch estimate for this Class A fridge freezer.
The plug is measuring the consumption as follows:
15W when ‘off’ (not doing this very often!)
68W with fan and compressor running – what it seems to be doing most of the time.
180W during first part of defrost (compressor not running)
80W for a short while following defrost – compressor running but no fan.Is this behavior normal, or do I need to call Bosch out to have a look – and how do I explain to them that although it is working I don’t ‘feel’ that it is right?

ParticipantCan report that this is not normal behaviour!
BSH engineer came out this morning, and I have had the following report from top management (aka the wife!):-1. Engineer said he was fed up with fixing these!
2. Evaporator frozen at rear (what I suspected).
3. BSH are aware that there are problems with this model and there are now 7 mods applicable (mine had some already).
4. He has carried out all mods – these include increasing defrost cycle time from 20mins to 40mins and adding extra metal parts to ensure that defrost heat does not affect plastic parts. Sorry can’t be more specific – not there to witness repair.
5. New 2 year warranty issued, starting from today.
Has this fixed it – who knows – watch this space!!!! 😯

ParticipantJust for Info Tubafan , the extra metal part is actually a deflector plate , fitted above the evaporator that is used to make the defrost heater work more effeciently by stopping the heat from it from dissapating too much 8)

ParticipantThanks for that nomadPaul.
FYI, the parts fitted were a Plate (Item number 479167), a clip (610504) and an Operating Module (644127).
Assume the operating module contains new firmware to control defrost time etc?

😀Correct . The plate does as stated above and the clip keeps the defrost heater nice and secure 😉

ParticipantRe: Bosch KGN34X00GB/06 – power use
We bought this exact model in Sept. 2006 and by March 2007 the fridge wouldn’t work anymore and it could not be repaired so we had a replacement model. We were without fridge/freezer for over a week. Now I fear the same is happening again after 11 months of use: the fridge doesn’t seem to work anymore, only detected it tonight, so will call Bosch tomorrow and ask for an engineer to come out. Let’s hope the response time this time round is a bit quicker. Am not really happy to accept the same replacement model again, but not sure what my consumer rights are in this respect? Will keep you posted as soon as the problem has been resolved.
An unhappy Bosch customer. You think you buy a quality product and everyone recommends amongst others Bosch…. Wel, never again!
