ParticipantHi there,
I am new to the forums and have joined as I need advice on either a new purchase or better still to get my ageing Bosch to start working again without too much cost.
I have had the Bosch for around 12 years now and since last year had been playing up.The freezer is constantly dropping temp from -18 to -10 and icing up along the back wall. We have switched it off on a couple of occasions but the problems soon re-appear.
Today I took off the door seal and left it in a bucket of warm soapy water. I have cleaned it throughly and used insulation tape where there are cracks. I also took the back cover off and spent a bit of time hacking away at the ice build up (using a blunt plastic scraper!). I’ve had it on for the past 4 hours and it has gradually gone +10 to -13 degree’s , I’m hoping to hit the majic -18 soon.
If this does not cure it, I am looking to replace the door seal in the first instance, if this does resolve the issues not sure where else to look and would welcome any advice.
Many thanks

Is the ice build up you have powdery and white or is it smooth and kinda clear?

Hi there,
ice on the back of the freezer is of the powdery type, after I removed the rear cover yesterday there was a build up of clear ice around the radiator type unit (evaporator?).
Since my original post, the freezer never made it to -18 and instead went up to +6! we have since emptied it of any perishable foods and its currently runnung at +2, this is affer a day of having it on the highest setting.
Would welcome any tips on where to go from here, I am planning to replace but need to keep it running for a couple of months if poss until my cashflow is on an even keel, (just last month had to replace the washing machine!)

ParticipantI have this ff. I have just noticed that it has ventilation ducts at the rear edge of the top.
I had the same problem. My wife had covered these ducts with boxes – In the manual it states that if these ducts are covered the ff will not maintain the required temperature.
I don’t know if it will be the solution to my problem, but worth checkingAugust 29, 2009 at 12:40 pm #289846nomadPaul
ParticipantWith any fridge freezer , whether it be a frost-free or standard , i would always advise a power off 48hr defrost to get the appliance back to a level playing field , free of ice .
If after switching back on , and given a reasonable freezing down time , the fault persists after this defrost then you can generally assume there is a fault of some kind.
