been here today the light is staying on but the slider which hits the light switch is in the wall of the fridge i take it there is nothing can be done.can anyone confirm this?

I assume you mean the light is staying on full not half power.
If so,you can take the door s/w “cam” out with a terminal driver.
The rod can then be removed, it should be nice and straight (they usually bend) it can be straightened out gently, apply some silicone grease and refit and all should be well.
