Participanti have a problem with our 3 year old fridge freezer (built in, not frost free), we noticed the fridge temp being higher than normal in the last week or so, the temp is set with a button, each press changes the preset temp (to 2, 4, 5, 8 deg C), there is a small indicator light above each temp setting, the light above the required temp flashes till the temp is reached but is now constantly flashing as it is unable to cool down.
I removed this housing that also contains the light, there is a small pcb & block connector that plugs into the side of the fridge. On the pcb is also a metal section (approx 1.5″ long, C shaped with a small black electronic component attached), I dont think this unit has a thermostat but am not sure. We have done a defrost (unplugged 24 hours) and now that we have switched back both fridge & freezer do not appear to be working, there may be a tiny amount of cold in the freezer coils inside but not very much, any help & advice would be gratefully received to see if this is a DIY fix or at least get some knowledge so I have an idea what the problem may be, are there any checks I can make to rule out certain things THANKS VERY MUCH

Hi
If you can hear the motor (compressor) running constantly without any freeze or chill, then you are most definately looking at a system fault whether it be low refrigerent, blockage in the system or weak compressor.
In any case its out of the realms of this forum and you will have to consider an engineer.Regards
Greg

Hi Simon
Yes better switch off to reduce any un-necessary wear on compressor plus wastage of your electricity 😉Greg
