I’ve had an enquiry from a customer who just purchased a Bosch
WFO 2466GB. He was, “surprised to find the following statement in the manual regarding fitting under a work surface:

For safety reasons in built-under installations, a metal cover must be assembled by a specialist in place of the appliance cover plate” (obtainable from Bosch customer service)”

My interpretation of this is that if the machine caught fire then the lid wouldn’t contain it. As the majority of washing machines go under a worktop in the UK it seems strange that Bosch would supply washing machines not suibtable for such a practace and expect customer’s to purchase a separate lid.

Anyone heard of this before? And aren’t most washing machine lids (and tubs) plastic?

    Hi
The WFO 2466GB isn’t a built onder appliance, so what I imagine Bosch is sayoing is if you should desire to integrate it you need to fit a metal sheet lid. Thi shas nothing to do with fire, it is merely a precaution that if it was not fitted, little fingers could gain access to live parts :zap:

Are you sure that’s not just for instances where the lid would have to be removed to fit the appliance under the worktop? It used to happen a lot, not seen it for a number of years mind you, where the manufacturer supplier (as a cost accessory of course) a fitted metal plate to stop little fingers and other assorted hazards from getting into the timer etc.

I did wonder whether it was referring to this initially, but the wording is vague. If it had said that if you remove the lid to fit it under a worktop you must fit the special lid it would have been more obvious. It says you must fit the metal lid in place of the original, which implied that if you wanted to leave the original lid on you shouldn’t.

I’m sure it must be referring to if you removed the original lid for height reasons as you both suggest.

    Yes, it’s only a height thing. 8)
