Might be 1 fault with more than one symptom, might be 2 individual things:

For years the dishwasher had an intermittent fault: It wouldn’t start it’s cycle. It looked like it had on the display (Flashing between Auto Wash, Wash and the remaining time) but the appliance would be silent. Opening and closing the door didn’t help, all that could be done was cancel the cycle, wait for it’s to drain (drain what I don’t know :lol:) and try again. Often found that choosing a different cycle would help.

More recently though, it’s developed another fault:

It’ll start the cycle, but take forever to finish it, and even then it doesn’t seem to do a good job of cleaning things, last night for instance after the cycle was minutes away from finishing, it was still displaying Wash, hadn’t rinsed or started drying. Opened and shut the door… it recalculated the time and stuck another hour on it. No idea how long it actually took in the end, as I went to bed.

Think that’s all the info I can supply, will add any more if it comes to light.

Seems too, or at least it does some of the time, it ran all right last night, at the second time of asking (first time fault #1 reared it’s head).

I can make a little addition to #1 as well; the machine isn’t totally silent, it makes a few noises as per normal, then falls silent and does nothing.

Right a small update:

I am pretty sure that when it takes forever to complete it’s cycle (as per fault #2) it isn’t heating the water, as stuff is (eventually) coming out wet and not as clean as it should be.

Standard fault is underfilling, thus the diaphragm switch on the end of the heater box is not pressurised, so no heat.

Basic solution is to remove the lower front panel (and plug), remove the corrugated hose revealed and clean thoroughly.

Great advise, that pipe is funked up beyond belief and (according to my tap) severely restricted. Will clean and refit tomorrow. While the lower panel is off, is there anything else worth doing/cleaning? Might as well do some good old preventative maintenance if possible!

Stage 2 is to remove the left hand side panel (from the front) and have a look at the pressure chamber (where that pipe joins on) and strip and clean that.

Something like this:

Explain (gently) to the Senior Dishwasher Operative that it’s a dishwasher, not a waste disposal unit – the heavy stuff has got to go before you set it off.

Well it’s half way through it’s first cycle after I dislodged the horrific goo from inside the pipe, and I am pleased to say that it is scorching hot inside again (put it on the hottest cycle, an acid test if you will)

Thank you very much, I guess I shall be making semi-regular checks on that.

I’ve also noticed that it sounds different now, it used to make a kind of KERPLUNK™ repeatedly at the start of the cycle, and at points during it, that’s now gone.
