    Hi there

First time in, great forum. I wonder if anyone can kindly provide insight on this.

Problem is that the sink whose drain pipe is also used by the d/w to drain, had a blockage in the pipe while the machine was in use, and now it will not let water in. I read somewhere this could be due to a float valve in ‘the bottom’, which trips if there is too much water in the machine, which condition may well be tripped by the ‘back wash’ caused by the blocked sink / drain.

I took off the left side panel to take a general look, and noticed some gunge in the plastic microswitch / float assembly (to the right of the large flat plastic panels with water in) so I took this off and cleaned it all up, but the problem persists.

There is a humming when any programme is started (but no water entry), and this stops when the door is opened.

I therefore take the view that there may be another float switch which has tripped, and which therefore needs investigation. If so, where is it exactly ?

If this is not the case, I presume the problem is the water inlet valve / solenoid not working, or the main board not giving the correct ‘instruction’ any more.

So, any assistance on this will be very much appreciated – thank you.

If there is water in the base , the red ‘stick’ , which is part of the microswitch/red float assembly will be lifted but this will cause the pump to run continuously.

I would be checking to make sure the water supply to the appliance hasn’t been turned off – Always start with the simple things first 🙂

    Many thanks for this, nomadPaul.

Where would the water be ‘in the bottom’, if there is in fact any ? Is there a container of some sort ?, and would this be filled up in the event of a blocked rain, as was the case here ?

The water supply is fine, by the way. Could this be the Inlet Valve if not the above ? If so, how would one check it ? Or maybe the Main Board.

Again, many thanks for your time and trouble.

You said in your first post that you had cleaned out the gunge in the plastic microswitch/float chamber and it is here that you should see a red plastic plunger/rod which sits on a polystyrene float in the base. The top of the rod will operate a microswitch if raised by water in the base.If there is any water in the base , this polysytene float will be ‘lifted’ by water and you will be able to feel this .

As i said though , if this is the case , the pump would be operating constantly , even with the door open probably so i don’t think this is the problem.

Have you electronically re-set the appliance ? There should be marked around the cycle buttons the word ‘reset’ with 2 buttons marked with dots. These , when pushed together , will reset the appliance back to ‘0’. Try this and then start a cycle again from the beginning and see what happens .
