Bosch machine not spinning, with E43 + E63 errors

Hi,

We have a Bosch WAQ283S0GB which is not spinning, and shows an E43 error.

I have checked for blockages and checked the belt.
There was an elastic band around the impeller which was stopping it from spinning. I removed that and cleared the error (Turned dial from 12 o’clock to 12, to 6, held down spin, then turned to 7) which then showed me an E63 error, though only temporarily, and it allowed me to try another cycle, but it still didn’t spin.

Based on what I’ve read, I would normally look at replacing the brushes, however I did that around 6 months ago, so I wouldn’t have thought they’d have worn out just yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look at next, or anyone know a definitive source for error codes? Googling gives various different answers.

Sorted it thanks – the electrical connector to the motor had come a bit loose, so pushed it back in and it seems OK now.

Well the error’s come back a couple times now 🙁
I reset the error, checked the connector was firmly in, had a look at the brushes, and then ran it again and it was fine for a day or two.
Now it’s come back again. Any suggestions of what else to check?

I’ve ordered some new brushes – they were more worn down than I’d expected given they’ve only been in use 6 months (though admittedly it’s used a lot in that time – we have 6 messy kids…)
Odd that the first set of brushes lasted about 7 years and then second set have worn down 70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} in 6 months. Might that just be because they weren’t genuine Bosch parts, or could there be another issue?

There are huge differences in quality between genuine carbons and some but not all pattern brushes. It would make sense to use the best possible with your high usage.

UPDATE: I replaced the brushes and it worked for two cycles, and then stopped again.
This seems to be what happens everytime I’ve unplugged it and jiggled the wiring/brushes about a big – it works for one or two spins then stops spinning again.

Any suggestions on what else to try? There is a used motor on eBay I could buy. Would that be a sensible next step or is there anything else I could try first?

Could be the commutator on the armature is damaged, something that can happen when using poor quality carbons. Usually that leads to serious arcing and blown pcb’s on BSH machines though. Getting anything ‘used’ from eBay is always a risky business.

check the wires at the motor plug to see if one is loose or broken, because if you do not refit the plug wires to the side of the motor after changing brushes with a cable tie then the drum movement pulls them.

also pull out one of the new brushes. What i have found with some of the pattern brushes is the angle is slightly wrong and the wear on the brush is at the end of the slope. if its like that i found you have to use a bit of emery paper and take the high spot off. the idea is to get the wear in the middle.

also when you use the machine keep the loads down (dont fill full of towels) and lower the spin speed to 800 for at least the first 10 washes then put it up to 1000 for the neat 10 and so on. This gives the brushes time to bed in
