I have a Bosch model WFLI2440GB (11 years old). It was in a spin at 1200rpm when there was an almighty bang and an extremely loud clattering like a machine gun in the kitchen, I genuinely hit the deck (as did my wife and the cat)!

When it stopped I took the relatively small load of washing out and the drum is severely damaged, with large dents in it as though its been repeatedly hit with a very large hammer. I have taken the cover off the back and top, but I am just looking at the plastic outer tub.

I have attached a couple of photos to try to show the damage.

I guess something large has come adrift and got trapped between the spinning drum and the tub, hence the load bang and clattering. The ‘liquid’ evident on the drum has appeared during the incident. A couple of questions:

    1. What are the thoughts on what came adrift and caused the issue?
    2. It obviously needs a new drum, and I guess other ancillary parts, is it terminal and time for a new machine?

    I welcome your views.

Almost certain as a result of the drum support shaft (aka drum spider) corroding and disintegrating during high speed spin. A costly thing to resolve and would require full strip down to determine exactly what parts required. A complete inner drum for starters. 🙁

Great, thanks for the fast response. I have ordered a new machine. 11 years is a good run and it went with such violence I can’t believe that the plastic tub isn’t damaged as well, judging by the dents in the steel drum.

    The help is appreciated.
