Will be doing some DIY work in the kitchen removing floor tiles and also putting in some new cables in the kitchen for washing machine and dishwasher which will need to be chiselled out.
My question is should I go for a SDS plus hammer drill like the Bosch GBH3-28DFR or the Makita HR281FT. Also there is the Bosch GBH2-28 to think about. But which one is the better built unit as Makita power drills used to be my choice many years ago but I assume now made in China. Any ideas on which one is better built and capable of chiselling concrete off a few pavement slabs for waste water outlet without burning out? Is the Bosch GBH3 still built in Germany ?

Hire or buy? If you hire, try to find an independent hire shop, as I found their prices worked out much cheaper than the national chains.

I hired an 11kg Bosch SDS-max demolition hammer recently to remove 35 sq m of floor tiles from a concrete floor. Even with a tile chisel it was pretty much a couple of days’ work, with breaks, although I removed pretty much all traces of tile adhesive. Anything smaller and lighter would have been a nightmare to use. Only afterwards when my hands were knackered did I read HSE guidelines which recommend breakers should be used for no more than 1 hour per day to avoid vibration injury.

Yep hire to get the job done, you’re wasting your money otherwise IMO.

    Thanks chaps.

Will have a look at hire prices but do like to have the tool when problems arise sitting in my workshop. Also have a sister in Germany who wants some work done on her house so not after a 4 Kg plus demolition tool.
