Bosch Replacement Pump is different size

Hi all,

I have a Bosch Exxcel washer/dryer. The pump went recently so I’ve bought a replacement one from uk whitegoods.

It’s a genuine Bosch part, and I’ve checked the part numbers again to ensure that it is the correct replacement for my machine.

When I fitted the new pump I noticed that the water inlet into the pump is smaller than the original pump and therefore the drain pipe doesn’t fit. The out pipe fits, the drain tube fits, the facia fits, the power fits – everything except the inlet.

Is there anything that can be done with this? Is there some sort of adapter or suchlike that can be used?

That sounds unusual! If the inlet into the pump is not greatly smaller than the sump hose then you could use a screw-up type jubilee clip…i’ve successfully done this on a handful of occasions when the correct pump simply wasn’t available 😉

The inlet is a good centimeter smaller – but I’ve improvised along with taking your advice 🙂

I bought the smallest bike inner tube I could find and some silicone sealant. I cut four little lengths out of the inner tube and pulled them one by one over the inlet into the pump with a layer of sealant between each of them, and then sealed the edges.

The inlet to the pump is now the right size, and I’ve tightened it right up using the jubilee clip as you suggested. Early tests are showing success but I’m still reluctant to leave the machine running whilst I’m not in the house 🙂

Do you still have the original pump housing? The new pump should fit on it 😐
