    I have a 3 year old Bosch Serie 4 WAN28201GB/23 machine.

I unloaded it the other day and turned the dial from “Cottons” to “Sports” and the RCD tripped a few seconds later.

It now trips the RCD in less than a second regardless of the position of the dial, even if it is in the off position.

When powering on the machine, there is the noise of a relay clicking just before the RCD trips.

Up until this point, I did have to close the door twice sometimes to get the cycle to start. This has been like this since new, but might have been happened more often recently. There have been mice in the past.

I have removed the lid and back and there are no signs of leaks or any damage or anything left by the mice.

    I don’t have a megger, but the L/E and L/N resistance are 3M+.

I doubt this is the motor or heating element as it happens immediately, but happy to do any checks needed. The heating element doesn’t look massively accessible – it’s on the front of the drum and I can’t immediately see how to get it out.

Happy to do any checks, but I suspect this is a “call the engineer” job.

    Ideas?

the front comes off the machine to get at the heater

it is the most common cause of this fault

if it was me i would tilt machine at 45 degrees and you can normally just get at the heater terminals from underneath. if yes disconnect heater then see if it trips. take care that any uncovered wires cant touch anything and of course take the plug out before you try it

Just did that whilst you were replying. Yep – it’s the heater causing the trip.

How awkward is it to get the front off these to access it for swap?

not as easy as the old ones as the control panel has got to be taken off to get at the panel top screws

but not really hard just takes more time than the older ones
