We have a BOSCH Serie 6 Washer Machine (induction Motor) that making a loud scraping / arcing type noise on the wash / rinse cycle.

Model is WAT 286H0GB/62, Serial No. 430020508378003641

    Here’s a video:
    https://youtube.com/shorts/1Yq4TU3AjKA?feature=share

No idea what’s causing it… and this is the second machine we’ve had that’s developed this fault (the BOSCH engineer scrapped the first one and gave us
a new machine as he couldn’t diagnose the fault. Can’t believe it’s happened again 🙁

The noise is intermittent and seems to occur on heavier loads / higher water level (i.e. on rinse cycle), but not always and sometimes runs as normal. Have checked and there doesn’t seem to be anything caught in the drum. The noise never occurs on spin so doubt it’s bearings related. no error messages or burning smells, etc. Have anyone come across this before ? Any help would be appreciated as I’m a bit stuck.

    Cheers!

Hi Dave, sorry about that, please try this video link which be public: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Wwk_hqsZKmA

FYI, I have tried spinning the drum by hand when the appliance was empty, and the noise didn’t occur. There are no obvious signs of anything lodged between the drum and the outer casing. Cheers!

    that is an odd noise

sounds too quick to be the drum so i would check the motor , take belt off and spin motor and see if motor bearings are noisy

does it make it when there is no weight in it ?

Hi, thanks Dave, it only seems to make a noise when their is weight in it.. I’ll try what you suggest with the motor (though when the engineer attends to try and fix the previous machine which had the same fail they swapped the motor and try sounds still persisted) – we’re only a household of two so the machine doesn’t get heavy use.

so i assume the engineer did not find the fault

also you can take the lid off and see if you can determine where the noise is coming from. it is weird as its the sort of sound a dryer makes when the belt idler pulley fails

I took the back off, ran the motor without belt to check that the noise isn’t coming from the motor (it inset) , and having reconnected the belt and run the machine with washing in the noise has stopped – it’s an intermittent fault which makes it even more annoying to diagnose so I’m, trying to see if I can recreate it whilst I have the back off (and top off it starts making the once again. I’ll let you know

Listening to that video I would say it’s the drum or pulley making the noise if a drum is order by the bisch engineer he should also change the pulley and the nut this will sort that problem expect a 2nd visit

Over stretched / worn belt chattering on the drum pulley wheel – fairly common noise. If you replace the belt all should be well. Beit should be 6pje1255 Bosch part number 00439490 more commonly listed as 439490 near 17 quid+p.p. The conitect or hutchinson belts are the same as this genuine one but at half the price.1225 is the length, 6 is the number of ribs and el or e stands for elasticasted and J is the pitch of the ribs as opposed to a fine rib which is H. So you want J pitch. Hope this helps.
