    Warning – first time user!

Our Bosch dishwasher has stopped pumping out. If I bail it out and restart it lets water in, the arms start swirling round and the water is pumped out of them.

If I leave it running I just end up with a lot of hot water in the bottom of the machine. As far as I can tell the waste outlet pipe is clear (I can poke a wire up it) but I am now completely lost as to what to do next.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Any broken glasses in the dishwasher recently?

Not that I know of although other users tend to be a bit cavalier about not cleaning plates off before putting them into the machine. Filters are always in place and cleaned regularly.

If I stick my finger up the outlet from the sump I can feel what seems to be impeller blades which I can rotate.

I was interested to know if there were two pumps, one for the arms and one for the waste or if there was just one pump and some means of diverting the flow from the sump to the arms or to the waste (and, if so, how do I get at it?).

    Peter,
There should be a small removable cover over the drain pump in the sump of the machine (needs a Torx20 bit to undo), this will let you check for blockages and for drain pump action. If this does not solve the problem, the water matrix under the left hand side panel of the machine is probably blocked in some way – best get some help at this point!

Do nothing without pulling the plug first.

Removed small cover in sump, removed unidentified piece of plastic from pump impeller, reassembled and tested OK!

Many thanks for the prompt and effective advice. Everybody here thinks I am an engineering genius and my washday hands will become a thing of the past once more.

    Peter
