My trusty and much loved SGS5312GB/12 needs a new fill valve as the original one is occasionally allowing the sump to fill up overnight so clearly isn’t always sealing fully.
To save a few pennies I purchased a pattern valve to replace it. It was advertised as compatible with my machine and is Paxanpax branded.
Although looking pretty identical to the original it is allowing the water in way too fast, overflowing the fill chamber and activating the flood protection during filling.
I’m waiting for a response from the seller of the valve, but have I just been unlucky here or does the original Bosch part have a flow restriction built in to avoid this?
Note that I have checked that the fill pipe in the sump is clear so it isn’t a blockage causing this as far as I can see.

the restrictor is always on the valve output so you can check your old valve to see if one is fitted

you can act as a restrictor by turning the tap down to reduce flow

start machine with the side off and the tap off. when it tries to fill open the valve till you see a reasonable flow of water going in

    Hi Dave,
There’s no obvious restriction on the original valve output. You’re right that I can deal with this by closing the tap but I’d rather not do that as previous experience tells me that over time it causes wear on the tap internal parts that can make them then not close properly.

In the end I got a refund on the pattern part as it clearly wasn’t compatible as claimed. I’ve now fitted a genuine BSH part, at three times the price of the ‘compatible’, and it works correctly. Looking at the original valve it does appear to have a restrictor in the base of the output tube.

sometimes you can cut the output off the old valve nad push out the restricter and put it in the new valve
