This dishwasher has been working very well for 17-18 years but we now have a problem with the rinse aid dispenser. The first thing that happened was my husband accidentally put a small amount of washing up liquid in the rinse aid dispenser. This was because I bought a couple of bottles of Waitrose rinse aid, or thought I had – one of them turned out to be washing up liquid, same colour with an almost identical label. I imagine that this was flushed through over the following few washes.
Then the crockery started coming out with a rough feel, plastic utensils had a white coating and glasses became very cloudy. This seems to come off with vinegar.
I wondered whether the rinse aid had run out and the indicator light wasn’t working, so I looked closer and found that the “arrow” (lever setting the level) had moved to 1. I turned it back to 3.5 but it kept moving back to the 1 position. It seems that it has become loose and won’t stay at the setting required. I have no idea how long it has done this, whether it is anything to do with the washing up liquid, or whether that is a red herring.
Is there any way that I can tighten the lever, or will I have to change the whole dispenser?
