Bosch SGS0922 Pump pulsing when starting

We’ve got a Bosch SGS0922B/11 dishwasher which seems to have difficult starting and I could so with some advice on. It fills with water correctly and to the correct level but then the pump rather than just surging into action seems to pulse several times and then finally springs into life. Once the pump finally starts it seems to have no difficulty cleaning the dishes and it finishes the cycle normally. Recently the pulsing has become worse and occasionally after pulsing five or six times it just sits there. Draining the machine and then starting the programme again then normally sorts it out.

I’ve followed through the cleaning steps outlined in the Bosch posts on here. The ribbed hose leading from the matrix to the sump had some crud in it but not much. I’ve had the matrix off and cleaned out the water level control. There was a film of crud on the inside surfaces but nothing serious. Having started the cycle with the side off it appears the machine is filling normally. The matrix empties fairly quickly. The pump does try starting before the matrix is fully empty but I’m not sure if that’s normal?

Having read a few more posts I’m now leaning towards the problem being a failing capacitor, however I’m unclear whether that would cause the pulsing that I can hear. If the capacitor fails does it normally mean the pump fails to start at all or is the pulsing and struggling to start that I’m hearing something you might expect if the capacitor is on its way out?

Any pointers much appreciated.

Try changing the capacitor on the side of circulating pump. there is a number eg 5uf on side of capacitor which you can give to supplier. Should cost less than £10. Failing that it would look like a mfault in the pump.

Thanks, kind of confimed the direction I was heading in. For £10 it’s worth a punt.

The official part number from the support site is 183639 and £18
2.5uF apparently but best to check.
