ParticipantHi All, I’m back again after a few months- more problems with the teutonic technology I’m afraid!
My 5.5yr old daily used dishwasher has suddenly stopped draining properly. Yesterday it was fine, today the drain pump/motor seems to have lost most of it’s power. It’ll drain slowly, but with no where near the power it had before. I noticed it was wrong when I started it, because it drains any residual water before starting and it was much quieter and the water didn’t gush down the drain as usual.
I’ve checked around for gunge and all the inlets are clear, the little impellor under the plastic cover on the RHS of the sump is clear and turns freely, but I’m guessing this has nothing to do with the draining. We rinse the majority of the waste off of the plates, so I wouldn’t have thought it’s blocked with food, but that’s always possible I suppose.
I’ve looked at the very handy BSH site as posted elsewhere on here, and it shows the motor and centrigual pump. I don’t see any bushes available, so I imagine if the motor has gone, then that means a new motor.
Any ideas on what this could be? The circulation pump, and everything else works fine, it’s just the sudden loss in power to the drain pump that’s the problem. What would be the best procedure for trouble shooting, and how easy is it to dismantle?
Cheers.
Edit: It’s just finished a cycle with some cleaning/descale tabs in. It’s not drained, and the pump is still humming, even when you turn the power off then on again.

Gunged-up sink coupling is the obvious place to start. If the hose flows downhill without a loop, there may well be muck and goo in the hose itself. Drain hose may be trapped, nipped or kinked.
Rubber flap valve in pump chamber may be sticking. Pump motor may simply be tired and running slow. Piece of glass may be in the side chamber, blocking the drain hose outlet. Remove lefthand side panel to observe.
Power off if you need to start dismantling.

Cheers Penguin,
Well, I took the side off today, to look for anything obvious & check all the pipes were clear. Drain pipe to the sink was all clear, inside the machine looked all nice & clean, so I put it all back together again, and as if by magic, it seems to be working again as normal. 😕 I tipped it on it’s side, and banged it about a bit, so maybe it’s dislodged something, who knows.
Anyway, the only thing out of the ordinary I found, was bit of gunge inside the heat-exchanger tank thingy. It’s at the top left in this picture. Looks like mould, but I don’t think there are any controls or sensors that might be getting fouled, at this point, are there?
