ParticipantHi all,
I’m pretty sure the circulation pump is dead in my 6yr old dishwasher.
It fills & drains ok, all the float switches in and around the pressure chamber are free & working, theres no significant crud build up visible, it’s just when it gets to the point when the main pump should kick in, it just stops & buzzes a bit.
I took the pump side panel off (power off) and could feel alot of heat coming out of the pump, so I’m assuming this is the problem.
The pump has been a bit noisy for the last year (these machines are supposed to be really quiet), but this is the first time it’s actually packed up completely.
So I would be grateful if an expert could tell me A)If they agree with my diagnosis and B) What the correct route of access to the pump is?
A few lines about how to get the pump out would be appreciated. I’ve done the main motor brushes & drain pump on my bosch washing machine so I’m relatively handy with this sort of thing. Finally is this circ pump a brushless or sealed unit, necessitating a new pump?
Lots of questions, but any help welcomed, and I’ll make sure I post a conclusion for future readers.
Cheers,
Chris

ParticipantThere could be another cause….a faulty start capacitor. With the power off , and the RHS panel off , look into the end of the motor. You should see a set of ‘fins’ inside the motor housing. These should turn relatively easily . If they turn freely , it could just be the start cap thats faulty.
Although from your description , my feeling would be that the sealing kit has leaked and allowed water into the motor and corroded it to such an extent that the bearings have seized . It will prob require a new motor and sealing kit – Not cheap !!! and a difficult replacement job

Thanks for the extra quick reply! I’ll check the capacitor tomorrow, and see what happens. Not going to be too pleased if the motor needs doing though! If you’re saying it’s a tricky job, that is not filling me with confidence!!!

Participantyou can’t check/test the capacitor….its a dangerous piece of kit. Just check the movement of the baldes/fins in the motor casing .
Solid – motor/sealing kit
Easily moving – may need new capacitor
good luck !!!
