ParticipantMy Bosch dishwasher is an SGS 4012 GB model, made in Germany, reference numbers 02223178 23 and 004833 DS
Last Tuesday, it did not complete overnight as it blew the 13A fuse in the plug. I replaced the fuse, and the machine ran OK through the pre-rinse programme no 4, but blew the new fuse when I tried the eco programme number 3.
I studied the forum and decided to open it up and look at the prime suspects, suppressor, heater, dispenser solenoid and motor capacitor. All were OK and there was no sign of a 13A short anywhere, which I expected should be a big one somewhere. Nor was there any sign of water in any of the electrics, the few old spiders were as dry as tinder inside!
So I gave it a thorough service and clean up, and then ran it in “open house” mode to determine when it shorts. Surprisingly, it ran OK through both programmes end to end.
So how can this machine pop 13A twice and then behave as though it is a new one? What should I look at or change before I put it back into its place in the kitchen?
Having now read the suppressor “bang” problem (next post below) I have ordered a new suppressor from UK Whitegoods (which also cleared some of my PayPal balance–nice one!) even though the existing one is as clean as a whistle and residing within a totally smut free environment! Anything else I should go for though?July 1, 2010 at 9:53 pm #324375clivejameson

The body count of Mus musculus was zero in and around the dishwasher so not wanting to fall into any trap here, I have discounted your theory but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Well 4 years later you were absolutely correct!
After a bang and a 13 amp plug fuse failure, nevertheless after plug fuse replacement the machine would then still run at start, run through programmes 1 and 2, fail on programme 3 after several minutes (by setting off the MCB), but also run through wash programme 4 when everything was reset.
This time, the suppressor was AOK, and the dispenser actuator LOOKED OK on visual inspection, but when I took it out, there was carbon deposits underneath. The inside was completely blown, as shown in the photograph of the opened unit components.
Simple replacement of the actuator solved this problem- here’s to the next 4 years! -
