ParticipantThis machine fills until the float switch operates, when it pumps out for a few seconds and then continues filling. This process continues forever. Tried forcing the float switch down (by temporarily placing a saucer on it) to see if the float switch was operating too soon, but the filling continues until the machine floods from the door. No blockages in the drain pipe as far as I can tell. Have read other posts about blocked pipes, but this machine doesn’t seem to have any internal hoses. Replaced the inlet valve recently which was cracked and leaking into the bottom sump, so am confident about the engineeering if only I knew what the problem was. Other codes on the type number label are FD8206 and 570213.

This will be a fault in the actual water level control itself. On this machine it’s a floating magnet and reed switch set-up, the magnet will almost certainly be jammed. Strip and clean, ensure magnet is refitted the same way up as it came out.

Many thanks. Could you identify the location of the switch please? Is it what looks like a switch on top of the white heater assembly at the rhs or somewhere else?

On your overfill “mushroom” how big are the cutouts on it?.
If they are about 3-5mm high, then there is modification kit available for the m/c.If so contact BSH Appliance Care on 08705678910.

Just a postscript to complete this tale.
The water-level sensing magnet is easily accessed in the front of the filter slot under a circular 2cm diameter cover. (Just remove the filter in the usual way then pull the little cover up with a finger.) Wiping the magnet to remove grease and replacing it cured the problem.
We’ll not be going for the float switch mod kit as the machine has proved to be rather unreliable and there’s little confidence in it now, so we’ll be replacing it with something else in due course.
