This machine is 7 years old. It will not pump out the drain water. The impeller is turning by hand I cannot see any obstructions. Could the pump have packed in?

More than likely, yes. It’s quite a common drain pump on that machine and they do fail.

There’s two options on a replacement, the genuine Bosch pump here and also the cheaper compatible pump here.

Many thanks for that, any guidance on access to the pump, I presume the base has to be removed

I think it does yes. Not sure if that’s one of the ones the guys reckon is easier to turn upside down or not and… cue trade debate on the best way to do one! 😉

I would check for obstructions elsewhere before changing the pump. You say the pump turns by hand, does it turn in normal operation?

    hello there
ok i need some more info does the appliance have a grey or white base.
sounds like im teaching you to suck eggs here but if it has a white base and drains through the side chamber you can sometimes find a small piece of glass blocking it usually near impossible to see.
hope this hepls if the under side of the appliance is grey plastic you’ll find it much easier to work on
    good luck

the impeller turns easily by hand, in normal operation ?? is there a way to see if it is turning with the door open . The base is white. It drains through a big plastic flat series of pipes on the left side. I have blown through with air , seems clear, but

There is but I wouldn’t if I were you. Better to just shut the door and start it up on any cycle. The first thing it does is drain, so you should be able to hear it whirring away, or, open the door real quick and observe the impellor coming to a rapid halt.

That’s good then but remember, if the pump is clear, the pipes also clear and the pump turns by itself when fired up, it still will NOT drain if you haven’t refitted the pump cover first!!!!!Easy mistake to make, catches many out that one! 😉

Still not working properly. on the left hand side there is a long red lever which wants to stay in the up position, when I hold it down the machine works all the way through a cycle, Is this an anti flood device

Normal position is down. If it activates it means its either overfilling or the water chamber and/or transfer pipe are gunged up!
