Bosch SGS45E02GB/56 Instantaneous Heater

I went to this machine about six months ago because the element was a dead short to earth. I replaced the heater and all was well.

Today I get a call, same customer, exactly the same problem.

Is there anything that causes these elements to go in such a short time or am I just unlucky?

(Customer uses 3 in 1 tabs without additional salt or rinse aid in a hard water area)

There is a reason why they fail but its not the fault of you or the machine/spares etc! 😉
Customers dont appreciate that they must clean the filters after each wash, otherwise sludge that gets pulled through builds up in one corner of the heater box, overheats it and causes it to fail!
Machines with instantainious water heaters wash in a lower quantity of water and the crap customers put in them seriously screws them up.
I always advise customers to scrape/rinse items before putting in the machine. 💡
I have seen them fail in less than 12months, if you want to prove a point, when you have the old heater out, break off the clips and open it up. Show this to the customer, it usually shuts them up!! 😆

Probably suffering from the endemic underfilling problems that these machines seem prone to.

Interesting that one,have had a couple of claims under Gtee and thinking about it they were dirty dishwashers

This machine is in a nice house and looked after so I would be surprised if it’s clogged up but I can’t rule it out yet.

I don’t know that cruddy dishes will ever cause heater faults? Nor low water flow ‘cos the microswitch would shut the element off anyway?

But my experience has found that NOT using salt allows limescale build-up to be trapped around the weakest part of the element. Namely the bend in the element is a hot spot where the build-up proliferates and it’s trapped inside the metal box clamped tightly over the element.

In the photo example below you will see an element that has been used without salt (just using these rubbish 3 in 1 tabs – I wont mention Fairies at this point :rolls: ). The majority of the element is clear of limescale except around the corner fold, where the element blew apart!
