I’ve just looked at a Bosch SGS45E02 dishwasher that customer reported had tripped power. When he reset trip there was a loud bang. I found the PCB was really badly blown but can find no reason for it happening, all components test ok and there are no signs of water having got onto it. Has anyone else seen this fault? I don’t want to fit a new PCB and have it blow again. Ideas please.

It should be OK just to go ahead and replace the module (I’ve one to do on Thursday as it happens) In most cases the module display either goes totally dead with no signs of damage OR the relays catch fire and black smoke and burnt ribbon cable all too evident. It is the BSH equivalent of ‘self-destruct’ brought about almost always when the user puts the dishwasher on last thing at night and goes to bed. If they admit to doing that, then you are part way to solving the likely reason it failed…. 😉

Although Martin may be right it’s unusual for a bosch board to just blow. Most likely culprit is the water diverter motor on the heater. Check for any signs of water leaking into it from it’s seal. Have had a fair few do this. From your customer’s explanation it sounds likely. Don’t forget that the water will have probably had time to dry out. Just changing the board can be a costly mistake. Wiz

Repaired one a few years ago which had blown a 1cm hole around its relay leg. I repaired the damaged tracks with copper braid and replaced the relay. Still going strong when I visited a few weeks ago. Was unrelated to other components.

I’m with Wizard on this one. Just changing the pcb is going to be an expensive mistake me thinks
