ParticipantHi
My Bosch SGS5312GB/12 (6yrs old) has suddenly developed a fault which means that it:
a) takes much longer than normal to work its way through a cycle;
b) doesn’t stop when it gets to the end, but just keeps churning away;
c) doesn’t drain fully, but leaves soapy water in the bottom, covering the filter.I’ve removed the filters and discovered a metal object (cap off a saucepan lid) in the sump. However, removing this hasn’t solved the problem. I’ve taken off the pump cover and there are no obstructions inside.
The display light on the front panel, which normally has a horizontal bar indicating the stage of the cycle, or a zero to show when it’s finished, also has a little dot on the lower right hand side – can’t remember if that’s always there, but I don’t recognise it…
Any ideas?

How is it on the quick wash?

Hi Penguin 45
I’m not sure about the heat. I found it still running several hours after setting it off. It wasn’t hot the way it normally would be, but I assumed it had cooled down…

The quick wash is taking longer than usual – I haven’t timed it, but after maybe an hour and a half it was still running. Also, if I reset the cycle, the display panel changes to a zero, but it shows no signs of stopping.

Check this Andy – may explain the heat side of things.

As for the water left in the bottom, it is possible that the sink coupling is restricted, or that the fill/drain matrix under the left hand side panel is obstructed in some way.
Also possible that the computer has lost it’s marbles………

Thanks a lot for the link – it’s very useful, but the bad news appears to be that if I can’t reset the machine (which I can’t), then the Module Circuit Board needs to be replaced. Is this expensive?
Re. the water – I’ll check the sink coupling. Could you tell me how I get to the fill/drain matrix please?
Lost marbles sounds bad 😥 …can anything be done?
Best regards

Andy,
If, when you hold down the two buttons for the reset, the display does not revert to zero and the drain pump cut in, you can be pretty sure that the computer is faulty.The matrix is accessible under the left hand side panel.
The computer board is p/no 264877, it can be ordered from http://www.bshappliancecare.com at a cost of £97.53 plus VAT + P&P 😯 .
Alternately, you could contact http://www.emwelec.co.uk or http://www.qer.biz
Both of these firms specialise in the repair of appliance boards and should be able to help. I don’t know what their prices are to the public, but it will be less than a brand new replacement.Regards,

Thanks for the reply.
When I hold down the reset buttons, the display does revert to zero, but it doesn’t start draining. Does this mean the board is dead, or might it be something else?
Best regards

Nope!… It’s likely that drain pump has something else stuck in it. Take a real close look using a torch, and pull out and clean the black rubber flap-valve next to the impellor too! 😉

The evidence would suggest a blockage in the pump/drain hose as Martin suggests….after all, if there was a bottle cap beneath the filter then the machine has been run with the filter incorrectly fitted which could allow all sorts into the pump.

Hi everybody
I’d just like to thank everybody who offered me advice on this problem. My dishwasher is now working again (although my computer’s now on the blink, hence delay in posting this, but that’s another story…).
It was the pcb in the end. I couldn’t find any blockages in the fill/drain system, but one of the connections on the board was burnt out. Not being an expert in fixing these things, I sent it off to QER, who charge civilians like me £54 to repair – less than half the cost of a new board. Thanks Penguin 45 for the recommendation.
One final question – when refitting the door front panel, I can’t work out where the two grooved plastic spacers go…someone in another thread said they fit over the hinges, but I can’t find a location that makes sense. It works fine without them, but I guess the panel is more vulnerable to dents. Can anyone help please?
Best regards & congratulations on an extremely useful and well-organised website – if only all public services were this intelligently run… 😀

yes…they do slot over the hinges, take a good look at their shape and identify which part of them matches the door profile and slide them into a side slot on the hinges so that the profile section supports the outer door.

Hi,
I’m having a similar problem with the same model dishwasher. It either gets stuck on Wash for ages, or gets stuck on rinse for hours on end – even on quick wash. I do have water left in the bottom, but it’s always been that way! I checked the pump as described, and there are no foreign bodies to be found. The impeller spins freely, and I can hear the water exiting through the pipe work when it does empty. I also do not think the fault is the heater relay. The unit is cold fill only and when I stop a cycle it is definitely warm inside. Not as warm as normal, but that’s probably becuase it never gets as far as the dry cycle. The unit does reset when I try and you can hear it then empty out (most) of the water. It just will not go through the normal cycles anymore.
Any suggestions would be appreciated – I’m quite happy to wield a screwdriver and soldering iron if needed!
