My 21 year old Bosch has developed a new fault, the sump fills with water overnight. Turning off the water supply stops this so clearly the inlet valve is letting some past. My dilemma is whether to fix it or to let it ‘retire’ after what is an excellent lifespan. I suspect a lot of parts are getting near worn out now so I’m not sure what to do. SWMBO thinks it’s time for it to go but I suppose the bigger issue is what to get next as the new Bosch machines clearly aren’t anywhere near as robust as this one. I’m tempted to get a cheap Beko and take my chances as most of the machines I look at have lots of features I don’t want or need and seem to be expensive because of that and not because they are well made.
    Thoughts please.

Shame I can’t edit the post to spell ‘dilemma’ properly in the title!

If youre doing it yourself, fix it.

It’s working ok again right now but I do need to deal with it. Just waiting for an opportunity to pull it out and see how easy or not a job it is.

I recently went through the same dilemma – see here https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/forum…old-dishwasher.
In the end I scrapped it and brought a new mid range Bosch – the cheapest one piece tub version I could find but after finding out about the crap heaters they fit
I do wish that I had not brought the Bosch and instead just gone for a £200 currys + £75 for a 5 year guarantee, then if it breaks down after 5 years the cost would be £55 per year — less than £1 a week. Or I could kill or cure in an attempt at a fix myself after 5 years.
Compared to the cost of a mid range bosch at £449 = £89 per year.

My avatar is the dismantled old bosh decorating my lawn 😀
