Hello! I’m new to this but I have a problem with my Bosch Exxcel dishwasher model SGS56E02. The top rotor isn’t turning and not getting any water to it. Checked for blockages in the pipe up the back of the machine but cant find any blockage etc. My next step is to go underneath, but thought it would be wise to get some advice first! Washing machines I’m happy with but not done anything major to a dishwasher before!
I should point out that the machine still works but leaves the top rack gritty!
Any advice before I cave in to my better half’s request for a new machine!
    Thanks!

You won’t see much from underneath. 😉

Have you checked the holes in the upper spray arm for blockages?

It may well be that the diverter valve in the heater box has failed, possibly the small motor that operates the valve at fault.

Unless you are feeling very brave I would not attempt to go any further. Access to the base components requires a major strip down, the top, sides, door, front plinth and the whole of the stainless inner tub have to be removed. And if that isn’t enough to put you off the heater box assembly is almost £100.

Thank you for that! Wasn’t quite sure how it worked! I’m an electrical engineer by trade and part of me fancies having a go, but then again, maybe not!
In your experience, it this worth paying someone to fix it or skip it? I’m not really a fan of shoving things in landfill, but one has to be realistic!
    Thanks again for the advice!

If you can find a decent local independent engineer it may well be worth having it looked at.

You could get lucky and find the heater box is OK and the fault lies elsewhere such as wiring etc but experience says otherwise, it is a decent bit of kit though.

I’ve just found this topic and, having had one of these machines for several years I thought I might jump in. Ours has never been better than totally useless and having just replaced it with a Beko at 1/3 of the price and found that dishwashers do actually wash dishes the Bosch is now heading for the recycling centre still in virtually new condition. It seems to go through all of the stages although it seems to use only one spray arm for any one operation albeit a different one each time. The filters have never been cleaned because there is never anything on the dishes when we put them in but they still come out pretty much as they go in unless they start clean. It has never been any better but we just assumed that this was normal. Sadly, It is now too late. I’d be happy to give it away but it would seem unfair to the recipient. Would anyone like to comment before I throw it away?

Only to say that it is a rare event a Bosch machine of this quality should have been such a disappointment to you. And that you would replace it with a Beko seems such a contradiction of standards so hard to imagine one doing such a thing. I can only conclude your action being radical in the extreme….I wish you and your dishwasher selection the best of……..Turkish….. (that’s were it’s made by the way! 😈 )

if it is a solid base machine, remove the front door panel, remove the plinth and the corrugated hose on the left, from the sump to the fill chamber blocks up and causes underfilling hence not enough water to get to top spray arm, very common fault on this design, never seen direction motor go on the heaters ever. Usual stuff…unplug before starting!

    😕

I have, on more than one occasion, often the cogs in the gearing wear. 😉

I agree and my action is that of a desperate man having suffered several years of ear bending from SWMBO. We bought the Bosch on recommendation and reputation and I’ve checked water levels and just about everything else, tried every form of detergent known to man, all to no avail. As an ex TV engineer and fixer of just about anything that plugs into a wall I am reluctant to get rid but SWMBO is now at peace with the BEKO but I am still getting grief for hanging on to the Bosch.

Life, don’t talk to me about life!
