Take a bow guys … this site is pure gold šŸ˜€ Anyone plunging unprepared into this shark infested marketplace is asking for sensitive bits to be chewed off 😯

I’m in the market for a new dishwasher and have been amazed by what seemed to me crazy prices being paid on eBay for damaged ‘new’ machines without proper warranties and some very ambitious shipping charges – even more so when I then read what you pros say about some of them … dog pile springs to mind! But I now know why a few of them may be worth it.

Studying your comments and suggestions I have narrowed the choice to two: Bosch SGS69L 12GB, which you rate as a good £400ish choice, and Siemens SE25M276GB because of general positives on Siemens and the 5-year warranty.

On paper they both do everything most people want. Both made in Germany (I think) from the same group – described as reliable and without exorbitant spares prices. (Some of your badge-engineering ripoff mark up examples are outrageous).

Forgetting the 5-year v 2-year warranty … which would you say is the better machine? If the Bosch, what about the warranty difference?

Out of curiosity, Kuppersbusch gets few mentions here (maybe high cost/rarity?) but are they any good – and is this yet another re-badge example?

Bosch and Siemens are pretty much the same thing in a different frock for the most part and I don’t think that either are German builds, I could be wrong there though as, the more expensive they get, the more chance they are actual German machines. A lot of them are now Turkish and Spanish made and, they are still better than an awful lot out there as BSH do put a bit of effort into the builds.

Kuppersbusch these days, who knows! We do work for them and it’s a bit of a lottery as to what you get since it can vary from model to model with very little being actual German gear. The cooking products are largely proper Kuppersbusch but I’ve seen re-badged Electrolux (Zanussi) being used for laundry and dish.

    Thanks KW.

I thought I remembered someone saying Logixx machines are made in Germany … and found this from Martin the Moderator

The Classixx range is made in their Spanish factory from components and tooling imported from their main factories in Germany. Only the cabinet is manufactured locally. Exxcel and Logixx ranges are made both in Germany with many electronic parts imported from their sister factories in Poland, Turkey and Spain!

The Siemens group after all is spread throughout Europe and Asia

So if the SGS69L 12GB is German made but the Siemens isn’t (or is it anyone?) would the two still be equally good … and factoring in the 5-year Siemens warranty?

As I hope this DW will chug on for 10 plus years – just want to make the best choice – and I know this is a bit crystal ball gazing šŸ™‚ I am very tempted by the 5-year peace of mind.

There is only one German BSH plant left to my knowledge and, so far as I am aware, it produces washing machines only.

The only sure way to get a German built dishwasher is to buy a Miele. šŸ˜‰

Of course there’s always the Swedish made ISE10, but that won’t be here this side of Christmas I don’t think. šŸ˜•

    Re: Bosch SGS69L 12GB or Siemens SE25M276GB?

    Thanks again KW.

Back to the drawing board then … and I thought I had this almost cracked šŸ™‚ I found this

    The Best Ones!

As you would expect the words “best” and “cheap” are, usual, mutually exclusive. That is to say that if you want the best in terms of performance and longevity then you have to invest more in your new dishwasher to start with.

Until we introduce the new ISE10 dishwasher, late this year or early next, the best you can get is a Miele. It’s not cheap and they are not cheap to repair but, they are extremely well built and should last over a decade very easily, most will see 15-20 years of normal use quite comfortably.

The entry level Miele full size dishwasher is the GI220SC for which we’ve dug up some prices as below. It’s a nice machine, if not very stylish but then the Germans tend to focus on Teutonic efficiency as opposed to fancy design, more function and not so heavy on form. However this approach pays off in many ways as it’s harder to break them.

You also get a simplicity that only the Germans and Swedes seem able to do well so, six programs but oh so simple to use. And, this extends to things like the basket design and cutlery baskets, it’s just well thought out and exquisitely designed. With all models in this price range it is the little niceties, the care and thoughtful design that pays off and, to a large extent, what you are paying that little extra for.

A quick UKW and Google search came up with washing machine info … not DW šŸ˜• And found you support Martin Lewis šŸ˜€ Please say more and if poss give a price indication.

    Hi,

The ISE10 dishwasher we expect should be available in the New Year, it is incredibly unlikely to happen this side of Christmas now I would think. šŸ™

Rough initial pricing suggests it will be on a par with the washing machine in terms of price but it’s not set in stone just yet. It’s actually often more expensive to produce a dishwasher than a washing machine if you do it right.
