I’m assuming you’ve already taken the pump cover off and checked that the impellor is not restricted in any way? If you haven’t I suggest you soak up all the water in the sump then remove the screw securing the pump cover in place, remove cover. (Illustrated in owners booklet )

Hi Martin,
Thanks for your quick reply.
Yeah, I should have put that in my post.
I have already pulled all of the filters and given them a good scrubbing.
I also emptied the bottom of the washer and mopped up the excess.
I then removed the cover (one torx screw) and checked that the impeller was not stuck. I took the opportunity while dry to vacuum out a few bits of food that were there but there was nothing serious such as glass etc.
I also pulled the wee rubber valve and cleaned that……while doign this, a load of stinky water pissed back in but I assume that was normal and why the valve was there.
After I did that, we also put one of those cleaner things in and ran a scorcing wash to see if any crap needed flushed through.
It seemed to do a couple of ok washes after that but the problem returned.
So, a wee bit stumped and concerned too.
We tried to run it this morning even though the base of the washer was full but it just didnt seem right. The water never drained and you could hear a pump startign and stopping constantly at the start of the wash.
🙁
Regards

In that case I suggest you remove the “wee rubber valve” again, then get the end on the grey drain hose and blow back down the pipe into the dishwasher. I suspect that hose may be blocked OR if it connects to a shared drain coupling under the sink, that coupling may be blocked?
If (or when) it is clear then dont forget to refit the wee rubber AND the pump cover before testing the machine again. 😉
Hock eh tha noo!

LOL Martin…..
Close….I’m from Belfast…..close in spirt and soul to Scots though 🙂
I will do exactly as you say tonight mate as the prospect of replacing this as well as the washing machine (which is arriving tomorrow) fills my pants with brown
Cheers

Alright…..pulled the filter/pump assembly to pieces and disconnected the drain hose.
It certainly wasn’t blocked at the sink side but i blew it through anyway.
No particularly big blockages to note but some brown water/crud…nothing hard.
Could an air lock in the drain pipe cause this behaviour or is the drain pump powerful enough to push through that?
Forced the pump to run a few times with the door open and it drained fine and flushed it through with real hot water.
Reassembled and ran a hot wash and everything drained fine afterwards.
It did this before and then failed again after a couple of washes so i will keep an eye and update here in a couple of days.
The wee sump pump churns away happily and there is certainly no problem with the main pump as i happily discovered with the door open….lol….
Are intermittent problems likely with the pumps or is that more control panel-ey?
Anyhoo….hopefully, that could be it sorted.
Thanks

The Control Board rarely suffers or causes drain pump problems so you can happily rule that out. Drain pumps on the other hand do suffer from wear and stuff getting caught in the impellor or wrapped around the drive shaft. Intermittent drain out faults invariably are caused by tiny pieces of glass or chipped crockery jamming the impellor. It is therefore extremely important to drain off all the water in the pump chamber and (with a torch) carefully inspect the impellor. Clear glass is invisible in water and therefore impossible to spot unless all the water is soaked up first.
The average lifetime of a drain pump is around 5 years. Eventually the pump bearing gets worn and the air gap between rotor and stator is compromised causing the pump to stick.
