Participanthi there,
i put dishwasher powder into the salt reservoir of my bosch SGV53E03GB – (yes,i feel like an idiot!). I only realised this a week or so later, so its been used a few cycles since i did this.
I’m pretty sure this will have damaged the water softener as the instruction manual says as much, although i’ve not noticed a decrease in the cleaning performance. If i continue to use the dishwasher without getting the softener fixed, am i likely to cause more damage to the machine? I live in a hard water area (bristol water 15-21).
cheers
sherwin

Hi
If you hadn’t have run it you could have syphoned it out with no problem. Then just flushed it through with a water and dishwasher salt mix.
Now you have run it you have allowed the detergent to enter the water softner media which will now be irrepairably damaged, sorry.
The only way forward now is to replace the complete water softner unit.
If you can supply the complete model number off the machine then we can give you an idea of cost.Greg

The part you require is 497684 around the £30 + the usual, available form spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk.
Its quite an intensive strip down IMHO, but neverthless quite do-able to anyone with a bit of know how.
Power off if you are to attempt or follow the link below for one of our engineers 🙂Greg

cheers for that greg 🙂
do you know if there is a ‘haynes style’ service manual for this machine available that would have disassembly instructions? i’ve found an exploded parts diagram for it within this site: http://kundendienst.consultens.de/gb/BSH_Appliance_Care.htm but tbh i wouldnt feel too confident attempting the repair based soley on this diagram

The diagram looks daunting, granted.
I would consider an engineer in that case, the job should take him or her around an hour 😀Greg
