ParticipantHi All.
Im new to this forum, have been pointed in this direction by my mum who has used the site before for advice.
I am thinking of buying a Bosch SKT5002 Dishwasher for £65, this is the small worktop compact type, the person I am buying it from says he bought it 3yrs ago for his boat and they only used it a couple of times but they never really used it at all so its still in mint condition. He says he paid £300 for it brand new.
I have looked high and low for reviews on this model online and can only seem to find the latest model the SKT5102, the latest model seems to have praise on every website, mainly for its efficiency and quality of wash etc. No one seems to have a bad word for it, it was even voted hot buy by WHICH!? magazine. The model I am looking at the SKT5002 seems to have mixed opinions, some people rate it some people dont so I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience of this model and if you think I should go for it.
How good are they?
Many thanks

If you can get the FD number off him that will give the month and year of production.
In general they are a good little m/c, don’t get many problems at all. If it hasn’t been used for a whil just make sure you test it through a cycle as the circ pump can seize due to lack of use.

ParticipantWow, quick reply!
I dont think I can get the FD off of him, hes delivering it tmrw for me. The CIRC pump should be ok, is there anything i should look at when it arrives or anything i should do on its first cycle to help it?

The best thing you can do is make sure you DON’T use tablets in them as they are designed for 12 place setting dishwashers.
I’d be tempted to just run it through on it’s longest programme first to give it a bit of a clean out.

ParticipantIve got some Finish Lemon SCent powder to use as have read elsewhere about avoiding tabletes in this type.
Im armed with rinse aid and salt too, all are finish products.
Will get the FD tmrw and report back.

If you find the powder too foamy (this can happen, if the dishes are a little too ‘clean’ going into the machine)…
…try the Finish ‘Liqui-Gel’ liquid. It is far less likely to create suds. The ‘Liqui-Gel’ uses an older chlorine bleach formulation, causing virtually no foam build up.
Some machines struggle with foam, even the small amount created by a good quality powder detergent. This is because most modern powders available in supermarkets, are based upon an oxygen bleach and enzyme formulation. This can be important especially for the tabletop machines, as they use very little water in the first place.
You can actually tell the difference, just by listening to the machine as it washes. Foam causes the machine’s rhythm to be impaired, making it sound very tired, and possibly causing a squeal as it washes.
Washing with the older chlorine-based detergents makes the machine sound much more energetic, as there is virtually no foaming action.

Oh, and NEVER, EVER be tempted to used a household bleach to clean the machine (Domestos, Parozone, etc).
They WILL cause excessive overflows of foam.
I had a Bosch-made Hotpoint, similar to your’s -for a while- and it was actually quite effective.
The best thing to do, is to set the programme BEFORE you close the door. This is because the machine relies upon a mechanical arrangement to activate the dispensers. (You can see the actuators moving as you turn the dial, with the door open).
If you accidentally mis-dial the programme as you are selecting it (with the door closed and detergent loaded), and you rotate the dial full-circle through the programmes to get to the correct one, the mechanical actuators will ‘fire’, releasing the detergent and rinse-aid prematurely.
Good luck with your machine.

ParticipantSo your saying as a precaution to setting the wrong programme set it before u close the door and switch the power on so that i know i have set the right one.?
I thought there was a power button to switch on after you have turned the dial surely nothing happens until that is pressed?
Daft question… what are Actuators and where are they.

ParticipantOK The FD number is FD8204 00241
What month and year was it made?
It has just arrived and im very happy with it, is quiet as anything, and in really good condition apart from the wash blade being blocked up with pieces of transparent plastic, probably food wrap off of ready meals, poked them out and its running fine.
What year was it made then?

ParticipantOh rite? Does that mean it may not last very long then? He says its not had much use, is there any way of telling if its had much use? Apart from scratches down the side where its been in a cupboard the front is perfect it still had its energy rating stickers on the front!

These are relativley bomb proof TBH.
As long as you adhere to the non use of tablets and give the plates a quich swish under tap before loading, you shouldn’t have any problems.
Without a crystal ball, who knows how long anything will last 😉Greg

ParticipantYeh and i guess if its been looked after so far and i look after it will do fine.
I notice that when it does a wash it doesnt seem to wash for very long before rinsing.
Would you reccomend it to use intensive wash all the time as it increases the wash by 10minutes?

ParticipantIs there a better wash arm out there that i could fit to my model to increase the performance of the wash.
I saw a video on youtube of someone with a similar model and they replaced the wash arm and it was more powerful and washed better.
Is the wash arm in the SKT5110 the same as in my older model or is it differnt and therefore would not fit? if so where could I get this part from?
