I have a Bosch slimline dishasher (SPS5462GB) not working through low pump pressure and not heating. Reading other threads suggests it’s a build-up of gunk somewhere, but where is best to start? The water management unit on the side of the machine is a pain to get off (specifically the spring clips at the bottom) so I don’t want to take it off more times than I need. Has anyone any tips?

Remove lid and left hand side panel. Observe the orange sludge in the fill matrix. When the machine fills from the tank on the back, the water has to run through this softener unit. If it underfills, this is because the softener media has solidified. Use a plastic handled screwdriver and tap the softener unit repeatedly – the media will eventually break up and allow the water through – it should start to behave rather in the manner of a 1980’s sand picture.

    Bizarre, but true…….

Thanks. Tried this, also removed matrix and gave everything I can reach a good rinse through. Now getting a slight improvement in washing pressure (about 6″ from lower spinner, still none from upper), but still no heat in the water. What can I try next? Does the base tray remove to access pump/heater etc?

On the assumption that the machine fills with its full complement of water before washing? (i.e 2 to 3 cms deep above the drain screen) Then the main circulating pump impellor may be blocked or worn and need stripping out.

Yes the base does remove, with great care and even greater difficulty. Lay the machine on it’s back for that operation. The base attaches at the front and hinges toward the rear…good luck with that! 🙂

Shoot the person who designed this machine! Getting the base off is more than a fiddle. Anyway, done that. Main pump looks fine – impeller looks good & spins freely. I guess there’s no other way to check performance other than plumbing it back together… Heater unit also appears clear. Any other suggestions? Am beginning to lose the will to keep going, esp as putting it all together again to see if it works each time is such a faff.

Have you established that the correct dose of water is in the machine as Martin implies?

The common fault is accidentally putting detergent powder instead of salt into the salt container which clogs the resin beads in the softener preventing enough water getting through.

With the left hand panel off observe the machine taking in water by watching the level rise in the plastic chamber, then when the wash pump kicks in you should see this level drop all the way back down to the bottom as the water runs through the softener and into the tub.

If there is more than say a quarter of the water remaining in the chamber then there’s your problem.
