my old dishwasher has stopped taking in water. When this is to happen I can hear a “hum” but no “click then rush of water ” like used to happen.
Am I right in thinking its the inlet valve?
Ive done an electical test on the valve & it has contituity but if & remove the outlet pipe from it when its powered, no water comes thru. Power is definitely getting to it.
I dont want to shell out £45 if its not likely to be this as the machine is 16 years old!
There is an additional small pipe going to a diaphrm type gizmo attached to the valve , this seems to work ok when I blow into it. Im guessing this is some kind of additional safety device?

It acts as a ‘water block’ or flood safety device. If the water level system overfills the device kicks in and and shuts off the valve mechanically. So in your case either the valve is indeed faulty or the water level system needs checking out? 😕
