I have an ancient Bosch SMS3042 which after years of sterling service seems to have finallly given up on me. Initially, it was stopping part way through a cycle, & it didn’t seem to be pumping out the sump properly.

I cleaned out the sump, through impeller to waste outlet, & that seems fine. I also cleaned out the matrix to sump pipe.

Now, however, there seems to be no water supply …. the measuring tank/matrix main chamber has water in it (but not the chamber with the float switch .. is that normal?).

Is this likely to be the inlet solenoid itself, or are there more switches controlling the voltage to the valve.

Thanks in advance but can you hurry …. I’d forgotten what a chore washing-up is!

Very likely, but firstly check that the clear tube from the inlet valve has no water in it? New valve (Part No 091051) available by emailing spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk or direct from http://www.bshappliancecare.co.uk

There is some water from the inlet valve going into the matrix thingy, but plenty of air in there too.

Solenoid reads open circuit, so I guess this must be the culprit. I just wanted to check before I ordered a new one. Thanks for the help.

Tried emailing spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk yesterday for quote for part 091051 but no reply as of this morning. Looked on the Bosch site http://www.bshappliancecare.co.uk/ , and now I’m a little confused.

For the SMS3042GB/03, the schematic shows the inlet solenoid to be part of a bigger unit with part no. 08 6825 kompl. If I then look to price the part, then it is not listed. 👿 Clarification anyone please?

I replied yesterday (no bounce) and added the part to the shop for you 😀

    Please click here for it.

    Re: Bosch SMS3042

Thanks Dave, still no email by this evening …. never mind, lost in the ether somewhere.

Anyway back to the dishwasher. I removed the solenoid inlet assembley & double checked the coil resistance prior to ordering a new one, and lo & behold it’s not open circuit after all … must have been some muck on the contacts before.

So, unless the solenoid is jammed shut, the problem lies elsewhere. How is the electrical supply to the solenoid controlled & at what point is it activated? Does this point to a controller problem, or are there more safety switches knocking around?

    Thanks in advance.

    Ah, it’s a mechanical timer Bosch 🙂

Check the door leads where they hinge for breaks, I think the problem may lie there 😉

If not, the dishwasher could be overfilling activating the flood protection system, in which case blockages may be the cause.

    Re: Bosch SMS3042

Right thought to get sorted this morning; had no time or inclination all week.

Replaced inlet solenoid assembly, but solenoid supply (brown) has been detached at tag at other end & it’s not obvious where it’s come from. Can’t find any wiring diagrams anywhere on the Web (was that naive 😀 ?), so anyone know?

As to Dave’s idea of breaks in wiring; can’t see any at the point the door hinges. Also, system is not overfilling …. just the opposite in fact.

I’m about out of ideas now, other than the mechanical controller (do they often fail?).

    Re: Bosch SMS3042

Hopefully someone will know where the leads goes but I doubt it somehow to be honest 🙁

The service manual will be required if that is the case but the chances of getting one may not be so easy.

Try phoning Bosch 08705 543210 they may be able to supply.

    Dave.

Providing you haven’t tried to refit the lead, you should be able to work it out as the relevant terminal will have two scratch marks on it. A powerful torch will help. Dismounting the timer may also help you see more easily.

    Power off of course.

It goes to the float microswitch that sits in the base!

    No Martin, the other lead.

If memory serves I think one goes to the float s/w and other to drain pump.

Errr….then (I think 🙄 ) the other lead goes as a saddleback connection to the salt valve and/or the drain pump of the same colour wire!
