Bosch SMS50T02 salt refill light never comes on

The salt light doesn’t ever come on and I think this is because the water softener is not working, Is there a likely cause for this? How is the softener controlled and when in the cycle is it supposed to operate?

Don’t think so. Is there a good way to check seeing as it doesn’t have a float to measure the specific gravity? The water softener didn’t work even when I put more salt in anyway, so I have taken to using all-in-one tablets which do not give such good results as the water is very hard here.

apart from if its not using it then if you try to fill it up it will be full already

have you adjusted the softener control on the unit to a hard water setting ?

Yes I did that on first installation and I have checked it since. However the water in the reservoir doesn’t taste salty now, so maybe the softener is using up the salt and just the indicator light isn’t working.

Today’s plan is to move this m/c to our holiday home in a soft water area where it won’t matter (in place of the SMS44 which is slow to fill – see thread 854983) and buy a new one for here, probably a SMS46IW10G as I remember you don’t think much of the cheaper models with plastic tubs!
