    Good afternoon all,

Visited the above dishwasher as a customer had complained of a bad noise when starting, and poor wash results to the upper basket.

The noise was quickly identified, as the drain pump impeller cover in the sump was adrift.

However, the poor wash results are due to the upper spray arm not rotating.

The water pressure seems fine, as the lower section washes well, and sounds healthy.

So, I wonder if I should be checking the alternating water distributor, (and if it can be tested conclusively?) and/or main board?

    I don’t think there’s a blockage, although I haven’t checked fully so far.

Any help appreciated, prior to returning….

I presume that you’ve done the usual checks for rice, sweetcorn and pepperoni wrappers blocking the upper spray arm holes and that the arm rotates freely.

When the machine is running, can you hear the sound of the spray changing from bottom to top spray arm? If you notice a regular change in the sound the machine makes during operation the diverter is probably working. The only quick way I know, to test the diverter, is to pull up the dual duct spigots that push into the base of the machine behind the lower spray arm. Then peer down into the opening with a torch, to look at the diverter plate which rotates to divert the water to upper and lower spay arms. This is usually a white disc and most often seems to stop working with one hole only partially uncovered. That’s usually the first clue to a failure of that component. Finally, if you suspect the diverter, a gentle prising with a small screwdriver, will usually enable a hole (In the diverter disc) to be moved into position to send the water to the top spray arm. Test – with the duct spigots reconnected. If upper spray arm now rotates, pretty sure to be the diverter unit.

    Hope that helps.

yes i would say check diverter

think you can see diverter disk from bottom bar

you could check board for damage in case its blown board which would make it BER

    Good morning,

Thanks Graham & Dave for your feedback.

Yes, I did check the arms for blockages and the upper freely rotates.

I monitored the dishwasher for quite a while on a cycle, and I don’t think there was much/any change in sound when operating/fluctuating from upper to lower…

Will check/replace above unit, and update next week.

    Many thanks,
