    Hi

I have the above mentioned dishwasher and it has recently been tripping the house RCD every time it gets to the heating cycle. I could see that there is earth leakage on the motor and decided to to replace it. This I have done and on inspecting the old motor I can see that a seal seems to have failed but on running the dishwasher with the side open to check my installation is good, I have discovered another problem which needs resolution.

With reference to the photograph attached and the short video clip (not entirely sure that they will work and if not, if someone can help me with sharing media here from google drive, or some other method, that would be good too) you can see that there is what appears to be a “windscreen wiper” type seal which is letting water spray past it at certain times in the cycle. Now it seems as if this is a sort of last resort seal and that the true seal is hidden behind the grey plastic beam to which this is clipped. What I imagine has happened is that grey plastic beam has distorted over the years and pulled away from whatever seal is behind it. What I am trying to find out is how difficult it is to repair this properly, as if it turns out to be a major job and with the dishwasher being 6 years old my repair to see it through to end of life will be to fill the whole of this gully with silicone sealant, unless someone here can can tell me why that might be a bad idea.

Bosch seems to expect some leakage here because not only have they installed this windscreen wiperesque seal, but the beam that I have been talking about also has a notch in it which seems to be there to allow water to escape and down a little moulding to eventually find its way to the undertray. There is also a plastic sheet normally here, which I have removed for the photograph, which also guides any escaping water into the undertray and the electronic unit bottom also as a cover with a channel on it which looks like it is there in expectation of water hitting it and channelling it again to the dishwasher undertray.

It just seems like there is way too much water spraying past the windscreen wiper to be a design expectation. My temporary fix it to have folded the “blade” of this seal down onto the channel, which for the time being has stopped 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the spray, but this is no way a solution that I want to live with.

Can anyone describe the proper solution to this?

    Thank you

“Can anyone describe the proper solution to this?”

    short answer, there isn,t one

i think there may be a mod kit to try to improve it. Had this problem lots. its a case of bosch trying to make the lower models cheaper and making a muck of it

maybe one of the other guys may know the mod kit and if they have had success with it

you could post the complete model as i cant even look on a partial

Thank you for taking the time to reply. The full model number is: SMV53A00GB/14

I can feel like “fill the gap with silicone sealant” solution becoming my solution.

bosch has produced some mod kits to cure this problem. one of the part numbers that popped up was 11026549 but on checking the bosch site it says it wont fit your model.

You could contact them and ask if there is a similar kit for your model or just get out the silicone

seen this fault so many times

Thank you for the reference to the repair kit. Seem like my synopsis if the failure was right – “What I imagine has happened is that grey plastic beam has distorted over the years and pulled away from whatever seal is behind it.” – as the kit seems to comprise a length of rubber that is jambed behind the bowed plastic beam and a rigid metal bar to force the bowed plastic beam back into to contact with the seal.

In a way it is good to know that this is such a common fault that a kit for similar models exists and that I now have a pattern to follow should I wish to take a similar route. Incidently, I had been considering making a similar rigid support to force the warmed plastic back into shape, but on my model it is not immediately apparent where I could anchor it at the ends. Good to know that the “official” fix is the same solution though. This has all been very helpful.

I think I may resort to the silicone sealant through.

As a final question, I notice the kit also includes a new lower spry arm that I don’t see a reason for? What part does that play in this leak do you know?

    its a common fault
Bosch is the only manufacturer who uses a plastic base. plastic suffers from creep under load so the gap gets bigger over time unless it has a metal support

Bosch r/h/side leak due to warpage – more likely due to heat – between plastic base and s/steel tank. SMV40T10GB/28. Repair kit is part number 11038786 not listed on Bosch parts website so phone Bosch to check your model. Kit should be about 26 quid including p&p ( actually given the bloody grief this problem has caused owners it should be free but it isn`t unless under warranty).
