ParticipantI been to repair this d/w after customer inadvertantly put a small scoop of Persil in the salt unit. She realised immediately and didn’t use the machine. The machine is spotlessly clean,no grease or crud anywhere. I’ve totally dismantled the machine and flushed the softener and internals and all seemed OK.She called a couple of days later and said it was making a clonking noise and not washing.
The machine appears to be filling normally but after a couple of minutes the red float lifts and drops at 3-5 second intervals causing the noise. I have checked everything I can think of but no joy. Now it sometimes fills normally and sometimes only a small amount as though there’s an air lock. It’s a model that doesn’t have an impellor jug, by the way.
Any ideas please. Otherwise I think it’s the softener unit, but I’d rather it was simpler.November 29, 2013 at 5:14 pm #405454timdowning

I’ve seen loads of these with the red float bobbing away which in turn causes the pump to momentarily run. As soon as the circulation motor kicks in it stops. I would put money on it that it was doing this before you took it apart.
(You could have just sucked the water/persil directly out of the salt unit ).November 29, 2013 at 5:24 pm #405455Andy jones

Replace the pressure chamber. Also check hose between chamber and sump

I’m thinking it is the outlet solenoid valve on the softener needs replacing.

Thanks for your input guys. As I said the machine is clean throughout,as new. I think the the valve is a possible, although it appears to work, it may be sticking. I’ll let you know.

Well, replaced the solenoid, same fault!
Refitted the old parts and changed the pressure chamber, all fine!!!
Can’t see anything wrong with it. Clean as a whistle, not damaged. Anyway,it’s working, what a relief.December 3, 2013 at 5:46 pm #405459Andy jones

Had a quite a few like that. Pressure chamber always seems to clear it
