Have started to replace a worn belt on this dryer and found the YouTube video from Matt at eSpares very useful at the beginning.

This dryer does not have a secondary belt and the new belt must go over the motor spindle. The top, both sides and control panel have been removed but the front will not come away from the base. Must do this so the belt can be worked over the input fan and over the motor spindle. Should I have worked from the back from the start? Cannot believe the engineers at Bosch would manufacture a machine that requires so much disassembly to fit a service part! Shame on you!

    sides off yes
    control panel off no

take rear cover off to reveal element you don’t have to disconnect it just be careful
remove element and remove rear bearing (protect from dirt and dust as its a greased component )
loosen screw on lower rear but only about 5mm
remove screws from top crossmembers left is a bar right is the water draw box
might be a few small bits to get out of the way but you get the idea
all you are trying to do is make enough room to slip the belt past the rear seals and round the drum so your springing the back away from the drum to make 15mm of space to slip it through

cant remember how I get it round the motor but there are various ways but I think
there may be enough slack on the belt to get it over the fans before its fully on the drum

it looks like a bad job but some AEG;s are a lot harder and hoover candy can be real fun

crazy done lots but do it without thinking about it

Thanks for your detailed reply. With the front panel loose but attached somehow at the base I should be able to get the belt over the drum and past the rollers with drum raised and supported by about 15mm. I think ?
It seems from what you say I will have exactly the same problem getting the belt over the fan/impeller even if I had worked from the back? The motor spindle goes into an arched/circular air intake housing containing the impeller. Has four snap fittings at the front which I have released, but if I can release at the back somehow I can remove it and slide the belt over the impeller. Remove impeller from the spindle only if absolutely necessary.
I assume the later versions with the small secondary belt don’t have this issue. Trying to get into the head of the designer of this machine, but struggling!

early versions have 2 belts later versions have 1. Probably a cost cutting exercise
also on some of the later ones is a screw in a really difficult place to hold the fan cover on.

never had to remove fans to fit it as you just need enough slack to sneak it over
