    Hi Folks

I’m new to this forum, having just discovered it, so greetings to everybody!

I have a Bosch V454235/01 washing machine that is in bad need of new bearings, I think.

It’s either repair this one, or buy a cheap replacement until I can afford a decent one.

    The questions are…

    1) How easy is it to replace the main drum bearing set on these machines?

    2) What other things should be taken into account at the same time (extra drum seals, special tools etc etc)?

The machine was new in 1993, so it doesn’t owe me anything, but apart from the (assumed) bearing disintegration it works perfectly, so I’m reluctant to throw it away if I can get a few more years out of it.

    I am a reasonable mechanic.

    TIA

One of the easiest bearing changes ever. 7 bolts and the cross piece comes out backwards. Large hammer and stout drift to knock the old ones out.

BSH part number for bearing and seal set is 107650. At over £80, you would be best to order p/no SS0501 from spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk at a considerable saving.

    Hi Penguin45

Thanks ever so much for the tips. I got the bits from UKWG at a level where I could risk failure (ie the price of a few pints!) and, as you say, the fitting was a doddle. The drum now rotates as new, completely silently. I’m not quite there yet though. The motor needs replacing (see post in the “wanted” section). If I can’t fix that, then the machine is probably scrap, so look in your bins folks!

I am still going to persue this to the bitter end, as I don’t fancy a machine that I can’t fix when necessary. The modern ones where that is possible are out of my price range at the moment.

    Cheers and thanks again
