    Hi,
Have an customer with this machine, she only uses it once a week. It sounds like the drum spider is broken, although not obvious from the front.
Nasty knocking with a full load, have checked the weights etc.

Are the newer Bosch machines liable to the spider breaking? If it were a Hotpoint i would be just quoting for the job but not seen any Bosch machines so far. The spider is a complete drum 475041.

    Thanks for any info.

What method are you using to check from the front?

If one arm of the spider is cracked you won’t feel anything when turning / lifting the drum, as the crack only opens up with centrifugal (or more correctly centripetal) force when spinning fast. Only way to confirm this is a strip down. 🙁

I’ve very rarely found a fracture so subtle that I could not detect it by pushing and pulling at various points around the drum. One time when I did fail to detect one, I did the bearings and reassembled the whole thing. Only found the fracture when called back a few weeks later.
Top spin speed with a full drum will also usually show a wobbly drum lip, though this can be misleading as some drums are distorted anyway.
    Mike.
