ParticipantOur Bosch WAE 28467, bought in October 2007, washes clothing and sheets OK but has a problem with cotton bath mats and the fleecy pads used in our dog baskets.
It washes and rinses the pad but when the cycle has finished, sometimes the pad is still saturated, indicating that the machine has not spun it properly, presumably because the load is unbalanced.
Setting the machine on for the spin only programme, or even a repeat of the wash programme, sometimes solves the problem but not always, so we have to hang the pad over a bowl and let it drip dry.
We never had this problem with our old Bosh WFK 2200. It there any way to ensure that the new machine spins the pad dry?

You’ve answered your own question there.
The m/c has detected unbalanced load, you need an even distribution of the load across the drum, otherwise you’ve no chance of it spinning.
Underloading will cause the same problems as overloading. You need to be careful though with bath mats etc as they become very heavy when wet and cause premature bearing/drum failure.

A good article Here to explain the problem. A common complaint on most modern machines with electronic out of balance controls. The machine is trying to stop you from breaking it. 😉

Thanks for your response. I wish I had read your article before I bought the Bosch WAE 28467. I might have decided to buy a model with a smaller drum (if there is such a thing}, like our old WFK 2200 which lasted 11 years with no need for any repairs. We washed the bath mats and fleecy pads many times in that machine with no problems.
Of course, the washing machine manufacturers promote bigger drums that can wash the bigger loads because that’s what customers want. But they don’t tell us that bigger drums may fail to spin-dry items that hold a lot of water. Such is progress!
I tried washing our Tumble-Twist pedestal mat on a programme with 800 rpm spin speed instead of the programme with 1200 spin. It still aborted the spin thanks to the out-of-balance detector and left the mat wringing wet. So I set it to do a gentle spin at 400 rpm. The mat emerged still very wet but not dripping wet so it dried without the need for a bowl to catch the drips.
Next time I wash one of the fleecy pads I will try using the normal wash programme but set the speed down to 400 rpm instead of 1200. I’m hoping that the out-of-balance detector will accept a slow spin but not fast spin speeds which could damage the machine. Am I right?

Just throw in a few old towels as well – they will spread round the drum giving you more chance of the correct spin.
