2x w/m both 2-3 yrs old bought from comet/currys (both were sold as special offers where multiples were shifting them for under £300) both a1 condition other than brushes worn right through to the metal copper feed holders within the carbon and damaging armature beyond repair. neither customer wanted to replace motor, the 2yr old one called bosch to complain when we gave the diagnosis to her, and they wont do anything, even if the customer pays a call out.

hate writing machines this young off, so in case this happens again does anyone know of any co. that refurbs armatures for w/m motors?

also any news on whether this is a known fault – i,e copper braid & spring too long for the cartridge? or wrong length cartridge, wrong positioned cartridge? never so far (touch wood) had to go out to a bosch weve sold yet thats under 5 years with any fault other than bocked filters/gunky drawers… hence my skeptical mind thinking maybe a cheap/bad batch of motors were shoved in under pressure from sheds so they can sell cheap

just so if i come across another one we can try and apply more pressure on bosch…

Whenever I’ve had problems with Bosch brushes cutting into the armature it’s inevitably that the customer has realised the machine doesn’t spin, but has continued to wash clothes for a fortnight because they don’t want to pay to have it fixed and hope the problem will solve itself.

Problem with the type of customer that buys these cheap Bosch rather than the motors per se I think… but maybe I could be unlucky. Motor appears to be identical to those fitted to higher end machines but not sure if Belay would use different brushes?

That model uses a regular, much tried and tested Siemens motor where there have never been any issues as far as I’m aware anyway. Clearly for the 154740 Carbons to wear in such short order suggest to me (and no doubt to Bosch) these machines have been operated almost on a commercial basis for that to happen.

Just been to a youngish Bosch WFO2467GB/15 this morning. Brushes down but testing motor before refitting into machine I found it was O/C. No end cap available for this motor, list price £216.00 😯

I see a lot of these machines with worn brushes and there seems to be a strong correlation between work load and life of brushes. Certainly customers do seem to keep on using machine when they are aware of unusual sounds and performance leading to damage on the commutator as mentioned.
On most instances a good clean of the commutator and new genuine brushes has worked. Sadly not always as the motor has failed or does so shortly afterwards. This seems to be more common with bosch motors.
Its a pity more brushes were not fitted with the auto cut off feature found on miele washers and some numatic vacuums.
I find that giving brush type motors a good blow out with an airline makes for a better insulation test result. Has to be done outside of course. Working on something to contain the carbon dust cloud created.

Alternative to blowing with airline is to strip the motor to pieces and brush out the carbon with a paint brush although this is also messy. I have found that either process gives a huge improvement in insulation test result.

it wasnt that long ago i had a customer come in for a w/m who serviced siemens components on trains. he said he would never buy a bosch or siemens home appliance due to the amount of problems he had to contend with their on their railway kit 🙂

Far from it martin – i did query usage with the nrly 3 yr old machine, customers profile was young couple 5-6 loads a week, and the 2 yr old one was a couple with a baby, approx 10 loads week, neither i would assume to be overy-high mileage usage…

also had a spate of bosch motors failing where the toc has been going on 4-8 year old machines. these included maxx’s and german exxcels

Why did they stop using the brushes with the plastic spring thingey 😕 on that stopped the motor when they were worn low? i thought it was an exelent idea.
