ParticipantSymptoms: goes through a cold wash to end, no problem. Goes through a 90 wash to end, no problem. All other heat programmes it sticks on the wash part of the cycle, does not get hot, and eventually the display jumps to 1 min. The customer then has to cancel the programme, select rinse and spin and it completes ok. Following other threads I have cleaned the end frame and brush gear on the motor, the insulation was 6 Meg, then after cleaning, no reading. Fault still there. I have renewed the NTC part No 170961, and am waiting to hear from the customer if it has made a difference, though the resitance of the old one is similar to the new one at room temp. I have also had the contol board out looking for dry joints, but none found. Apparently 2 cold washes and 3 90 washes have gone through ok, 4 normal washes have not, in the past week. Any ideas, please?

Fitted new heater, and left customer to report back after use. It failed, as before, on first wash. I have asked her to do a 90 wash to see if that will go through, as it did previously. I am fearing it will be the programmer, either power module or operating module. Any suggestions in isolating cause of problem gratefully received. Many thanks in advance (‘:?’)

Well there’s little options left TBH. Except just to confirm that the NTC lead, at the module end, gives an exceptable resistance reading at ambient of approx. 5.5 – 6.5 kOhms.
The heater is new, so is the NTC, therefore unless the connections back to the module are duff, then there’s little against suspecting the module being the culprit. 🙁
You just need to check and double-check those connections first…OK?

Many thanks again, Martin. Will double check the connections again, but I am swayed to your view, just wanted to make sure I haven’t overlooked the obvious. Customer has just rung to say 90 wash has not gone through, so it looks like the inevitable.

Managed to get this machine to the workshop, and found that the heater control relay on the power module, tyco T7S VSE6-09-WG was intermittent. Renewed it and machine back to normal.
Relay is indicated with arrow.
Inspecting the old relay and dismantling, the relay contacts were badly burnt, looks like a weak spot.
Hope my experience with this machine will help.March 20, 2011 at 12:32 am #345152gandh1

cheers for that, turns out i dont need one afterall (hopefully), but your post made me think again about the dw i was going to condemn today. i forgot that the relays feed each other, so you reminded me to check the full circuit on the pcb and i found that it was good up until the relay dry joint, but after that it wasnt, as it had been sent off to be fixed, i just assumed it had done more serious damage. anyways a bit of resoldering onto the other side of the track and presto working dw, much kudos signor
