ParticipantCustomer has had problems with a door seals on the above machine.
The first was replace by Bosch under Guarantee just over a year ago, now the second one is going the same way.
The bottom edge of the front lip is rubbing on the drum and disintegrating.
I have checked the bearings and for any play in the drum and everything looks OK.
Is anyone aware of any faults relating to this on these machine and what can be done to prevent a replacement door seal going the same way in 18 months time?

The inner drum is not running true is one possibility. On the assumption the drum is running true and doesn’t deflect in any way then just replacing the seal and it will almost certainly happen again. Which implies that the tub moulding (front half or rear half) is distorted and has been since Day 1. Or, if all seems perfectly aligned then they must be overloading the machine, washing trainers with flayling shoes laces, buckles or belts or some such?

The drum looks true when rotated and I can’t feel any play in it in any direction.
The door seal on this machine has a large lip that rolls into the drum by about 1/2″ and sits about 1″ smaller diameter so sits 1/2″ away, inside the lip of the drum (I think that makes sense).
It appears that after some time the bottom section of the lip curls down and then touches the inner drum. One thought was the customer overloads and then leave the washing sitting on the lip when it’s finished but she says she’s careful about the load, never goes out and leaves so takes the washing out as soon as it finishes because the end warning bleeps drive her mad!

Does she use any kind of creams or oils, does any family member have eczema?
These creams do cause the door seal to swell and ‘droop’ at the bottom, usually the seal drops away from the front of the drum leaving a big gap though.

That’s a good thought, the door seal has drooped into the drum.
Just called the customer and looks like you’re right, he uses petroleum based creams for eczema.
Thanks 🙂Do Bosch do a door seal for this machine that will withstand this?

I have a customer with a five year old Bosch and have changed the seal as many times for the same reason .Jim

I’ve also had the same problem. Bosch do supply a special seal for customers doing a lot of hot washes (to wash the oil/cream from clothes) I think it’s an ‘oil resistant’ seal, from memory. They do seem to work too!

I’ve seen the oil resistant door seals for some of the Bosch models in the past but can’t find anything listed for this one.

I don’t believe there is one for this model. They do one without the vent spout though HERE.

Do you know if this will fit the above model?
If not I can check if the models this is meant for use the same drum I guess. Also if this door seal doesn’t have the vent spout is that likely to give other problems like leaking out the detergent drawer or incorrect fill levels? I’m not one for fitting non standard parts to machines.

Is there such thing called oil resistance door seal? How can you tell by looking on the parts list on websites?

Oh yes, Bosch do as do Hoover/Candy and probably many other manufacturers. Mind you they don’t come as standard so you need to check with each manufacturer. They look identical to normal door boots if only a fraction more thicker (and shiny too).
